  25. I hope everyone appreciates the math involved in this calculation.  A
  26. step of 1 octave is equivalent to doubling (halving) the frequency, so
  27. the octave ratio of two notes is log (base 2) of the frequency ratio,
  28. and log2( 25/24 ) = 0.0589 = 1/16.98.  And if you're looking for the
  29. "log2" key on your calculator, you probably won't find it--you'll need
  30. to include base conversion:  log2( 25/24 ) = log( 25/24 ) / log( 2 ).

  32. As for noticing this, we should be asking PAL watchers, but if this is
  33. what you're used to, I doubt the shift is perceptible unless you have
  34. perfect pitch or a 24 FPS copy to compare.  Nor would it surprise me
  35. to hear that the average cinema projector might be time-inaccurate by
  36. as much as 4%, although admittedly that seems rather bad.
